Bringing a new baby into the world is magical, overwhelming, and fleeting — all at once. Parents often ask me:
“What’s the best age for newborn photos?”
The truth? There’s a special window in the early days when babies are extra tiny and sleepy… but every stage of your baby’s first months is worth remembering. Whether they’re 10 days or 10 weeks old, each moment tells part of their story — and it’s never too late to capture it. Whether you’re in Richmond upon Thames, Teddington, Kew Gardens, or central London, we can create relaxed, in-home newborn photographs that feel personal, natural, and entirely yours.
The Magic of the Early Weeks
Many photographers recommend photographing newborns in the first 7–14 days. Here’s why:
Babies are still tiny, curled up, and so-sleepy.
They’re more likely to stay comfortable while swaddled and in your arms.
Those brand-new details — tiny toes, wispy hair, and little yawns — are still fresh and really tiny compare to weeks ahead.
If you love that peaceful, curled-up look, if you like to remember those unique first days and their tininess, this is the time to book your at home newborn photo shoot.
But if those first days feel too busy or you’re simply not ready yet, you don’t need to worry, what matters the most is to capture your memories at a convenient time so they always bring back happy moments to you.
Why Every Stage is Worth Capturing
The beauty of lifestyle newborn photography is that it’s not about perfect poses — it’s about your family, exactly as you are.
Whether your baby is two weeks, six weeks, or even three months old, we can create meaningful images right at your home.
I travel to you, wherever you live, anywhere in London, UK or Europe.
Here are next best times for your newborn Photography session:
At 4–6 weeks: Expect more awake time and the first glimmers of a smile.
3 months: Babies start making eye contact, cooing, and showing personality.
Your baby will never be “too old” for beautiful photos —
they’re always growing, and every stage tells a different chapter in their story.
The Comfort of an In-Home Session
My newborn sessions are baby-led and stress-free. This means:
You don’t need to pack a bag or navigate London traffic.
We work around feeds, changes, and naps.
Your home — whether in Richmond Upon Thames, Twickenham, Teddington, or Kew Gardens — becomes the backdrop, making your photos even more personal.
I help you choose outfits that look natural and timeless, so you feel confident and relaxed during your newborn photo shoot.
The goal is to capture the connection between you and your baby — cuddles, smiles, tiny fingers wrapped around yours — without any pressure or rush.
Stories Shared by Families Like Yours
We loved working with Golriz again. We had 3 minishoots with my first baby last year in a studio type setting. This time she came out to our house to take photos of our growing family at home. She was flexible and supportive throughout the whole process, even helping me select an outfit when I was apprehensive about being recently postnatal. Golriz was patient and her warm and calm personality made it easy for everyone to relax.
It was a lovely experience to capture newborn moments and the photos are stunning.
We loved all the photos and appreciated Golriz taking the time to come back to our house to show us the final collection.
Golriz captured such incredible authentic moments of our family! We are so grateful and will cherish the collection of images we have.
Couldn’t recommend her highly enough.
How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photos at Home
You don’t need to go overboard — a little preparation goes a long way:
-
Choose comfy, neutral clothing for yourself and the baby.
-
Tidy one or two rooms where you’d like photos (often the bedroom, living room, or nursery).
-
Turn up the heating slightly — babies love to be warm and cosy.
-
Keep a muslin or two handy for those little spills.
Trust your photographer, Have breaks if you need to, Relax as much as it is possible, know what you are expecting
Everything else? I’ll guide you through it.
These Photos Will Only Grow More Precious
Right now, it might feel like you’ll remember every detail — but as your baby grows, those tiny moments change and fade.
That’s why I encourage parents to print their favourite images, whether in a keepsake album or as framed wall art, so these memories become part of your family’s everyday life.
If you live in Richmond Upon Thames or anywhere in London or even further anywhere in the UK or Europe, and you’d like to talk about your own newborn session, you can get in touch here.
Whether your baby is 10 days or 10 weeks, we’ll make sure this chapter of your family’s story is beautifully preserved.
